Their Need

  • Garfield Heights Middle School and High School are ranked in the bottom 50% of Ohio schools for math and reading proficiency, graduation rates, and overall school ranking.
  • In the past several years, there has been a dramatic rise in single parent homes.
  • 17.4% of residents in the city fall below the poverty level, which is higher than the state average.
  • According to 2018 stats, a poverty breakdown by age reflects that both males and females age 15 are the population most affected by poverty levels (over 40%).
  • In response to the rising poverty levels, the schools have instituted a free lunch program for all students to receive government-funded lunches.
  • Garfield Heights ranks 13 on the crime index (100 being the safest), putting it in the top 13% of cities in OH for crime rates.

These students need:

  • A safe place they can go for recreational activity and a warm meal

  • Loving Adults who will mentor, support, and guide them

  • The chance to hear the life-saving Gospel message of Christ's love for them

The Solution

In response to the great need in Garfield, our goal is to hire a Middle School Campus Life Director.

This will allow us to...

Foster and grow our current basketball outreach club that meets weekly in the middle school

Develop a team of volunteer ministry leaders who can serve the 775 middle school students

Create regular programming and develop relationships with students where the Gospel can be shared

In order to reach this goal, we need the following:

  • A strong team for prayer support
  • $24,000 financial goal
  • Indigenous leaders and former students willing to serve as volunteer ministry leaders

Your Role

You can get involved in two KEY ways:

Prayer Support.  Prayer is at the heart of all we do at YFC, and we need your prayers for God to bless our campaign, leaders, and the students of Garfield Hts.

Giving.  Our goal of raising $24,000 can only be made possible through the generous giving of donors, like you.  Below, you will find options for giving securely online or mail-in contributions.

For 'everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him?  And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him?  And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?  And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent?  That is why the Scriptures say, 'How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!'
